Welcome Back! I hope you had a lovely Summer and managed to catch some sun despite the English weather! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the lovely gifts I received at the end of the school year, they were very much appreciated, thank you.
During this topic we will be learning all about The Great Fire of London. The children are extremely excited about this topic and have learnt such a lot of facts in such a short space of time, a great start to our topic! We have already had a visit from the firefighters where we learnt all about how to stay safe and even got to sit in the fire engine itself! The children were very eager to share their facts about The Great Fire of London with the fire crew and even taught them a few new facts! We will be using our topic to help us write in lots of different ways; diary writing, newspaper reports to name but a few.
Our science topic for this term is Materials. We will be building on the children’s knowledge of Materials from there work in Year 1. The children will be comparing the suitability of different everyday materials for different purposes. They will be exploring how objects made of some everyday materials can change shape and how the recycling process is able to reuse some everyday materials numerous times. We will also be looking at the many different properties of materials too.
Please can everyone ensure that your child has a named P.E. kit permanently in school. P.E will take place on a Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon (on alternate weeks). Can you also ensure that your child has a water bottle in class. Your child will be expected to take the water bottle home every weekend for cleaning.
Please make sure that your child has their reading book in school everyday. Your child will be heard regularly during the school week. On Friday morning there will be a spelling test. If you have not yet received a spelling list, please come and see me.
Homework is to practise timetables regularly (Year 2 – 2s, 5s, and 10s and Year 3 – 3s, 4s and 8s), spellings and to read everyday.
Show and Tell- unless it is topic related, certificates/trophies or work they have completed independently at home, please can you make sure your child does not bring any toys to school.
If you have any concerns do not hesitate to speak to me, (at the end of the day is preferable).
