Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership Sixth Form students are celebrating another year of outstanding achievement. The partnership includes students attending the Somerset Studio School Sixth Form, Writhlington Sixth Form and Midsomer Norton Sixth Form, and is one of the largest and most successful sixth forms in the South West.
The students celebrated an incredible set of results following months of dedication and exceptional hard work. These outcomes will allow them to embark on high quality apprenticeships, careers and places at top universities across the country. An impressive 36% of students achieved A*-A grades and over 61% achieved A* - B and 82% of our students achieved A*-C. All of these measures are above the national averages.
Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership CEO Alun Williams, joined with Head Teachers from all sites to commend the students stating “I am very pleased by the achievements of our Year 13 students this year. They have performed exceptionally well, and I would like to wish them all the very best of luck as they embark on what promises to be an exciting future.”
Director of Education - Post 16, Karen Ward said “We are so proud of the achievements of our students, and of the perseverance and resilience the students have shown over the course of the last 18 months. We wish them all the best for the bright futures they have ahead of them as they begin the next chapter in their lives. With their strong destinations including exciting apprenticeships and places at leading universities, we are confident that our students’ diligence and dedication will ensure their success in whichever path they choose to take.”
This year’s outstanding results include the T Level cohort of students completing this exciting new qualification. We are proud to be one of the few Sixth Forms in the area to be offering this fully supported vocationally focused qualification. Students have successfully completed placements at numerous local businesses including the RUH, BimTek and University of Bath to name but a few and we would like to thank them for their support and expertise, without which, the fantastic levels of student success would not be possible.
We have too many significant individual accomplishments to mention. Detailed below are a few of the many notable achievements from each campus:
MSN Sixth Form
Gordon Green and Jo Postlethwaite, Headteachers of Norton HIll School and Somervale School stated:

superb high grades this year. Students achieved outstanding grades with students bucking the national trend and more achieving the top end grades with 34% A*- A grades, 62% A*-B as well as 87% A*- C. We would like to give each and every student our very best wishes for whatever path they choose to take in future. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our hard-working teaching and support staff. Their help and guidance allows these young people to achieve their full potential.’
Amongst the many successes for this year are:
Oliver Aldred who achieved A*A*A*A*A* and has secured a place at Loughborough University to study Natural Sciences.
Oswin Bakker achieved AAAB and is going on to study Environmental Change and Sustainability at Birmingham University.
Abigail Barnes achieved A*AAA and will be studying Modern Foreign Languages at Birmingham University.
Jaego Carmichael achieved A*A*A*A* and will be studying Business and Management at Exeter University.
Alex Chinakidzwa achieved AAA and is planning to study Medicine.
William Cooper-Baskerville has achieved a place at LSE to study History and Politics having achieved AAAA.
Joseph Edwards achieved A*A*AA and will be going to St Andrews University to Study Chemistry.
Isaac Hill achieved A*A*A*A and will be going on to study Computer Science at Bristol University.
Jacob Molloy achieved a place at Manchester University to study Chemical Engineering having achieved A* AAA.
Megan Nobbs achieved A*A*AA and will be going on to study Modern Languages and Culture at University of Sheffield.
Amber Gray achieved AAAB and has been successful in achieving a place at Southampton University to study Midwifery.
Samuel Gumm achieved AAA and will be going on to study Economics at Nottingham University.
Jenna Hancock achieved A*AA and will be going to study Criminology at UWE, Bristol.
We are also proud of Jake Holland and Ava Maundrill who have achieved places at the highly regarded Guildford School of Acting.
Somerset Studio Sixth Form
Bruce Hain, Headteacher of Somerset Studio School, said, “Our extraordinary students have done it again: T Level results have been collected today by our hardworking, skilled, and professional young people, who will now become the engineers, educators, and healthcare specialists of the future. Education & Early Years outcomes are stunning, with 90% A*-B grades, including 40% Distinctions, and 100% A*-C. Healthcare Science outcomes are the best achieved to date, with a 100% pass rate, including many Distinctions and Merits. Engineering outcomes are also our strongest to date, with 90% of the cohort achieving Merit and Pass grades, well above the national average. Three determined young people coupled this T Level with the Core Maths qualification, achieving an average grade of B-.
Our students now go on to a university, employment or apprenticeships, taking with them both their academic success and their all-important employability skills. We are extremely proud of every single one of them and hope they will keep in touch!”

Roise Gillard has secured a place at the hugely competitive Norland College, which accepts a maximum of only 100 students worldwide.
Bethany Wall is heading to the University of Winchester to continue her studies.
Kim Scollick has successfully gained a Higher Apprenticeship working within a local school.
Connor Underwood will be taking up a Higher Apprenticeship at the Hinkley Point Nuclear Power Station.
Maya Rogers is off to Oxford Brookes University to study Motorsport Engineering.
Kaycee James will be attending the University of South Wales.
Leilah Jones has joined the team at the RUH Medical Assessment Unit.
Charley Heal has accepted a post with the FAST Ambulance Service.
Writhlington Sixth Form
Duncan Powell, Head Teacher at Writhlington School said: ‘We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to all our students on the most impressive set of post-16 exam results achieved in years. Their determination, ambition and commitment have been fully rewarded, and these achievements are a wonderful reflection of the hard work they have put in.
We are particularly delighted to celebrate the exceptional outcomes across a huge range of subjects including Art, Sport, PE, Media, Business, Criminology, Media, English Literature, Geography, Psychology and Sociology where students performed above (and in many cases, well above) their predicted grades.
On behalf of all the staff, we wish every student the very best for the future and every success in whatever path they choose to follow, whether that be university, an apprenticeship or entering the world of work.’

Wilf Inger Flecker earned A*A*A*A alongside an A* in his EPQ, securing a place to study Biology at the University of Oxford.
Matilda Shand achieved AAAA and an A* in her EPQ, and is heading to the University of Bristol to study English.
Isobel Murphy McKenzie earned A*A*B plus an A* in her EPQ, and will study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Manchester.
Olivia Albrow achieved A*AAB and is embarking on a career as a Firefighter.
Ruby Borg achieved A*AA and will be studying Law at the University of Warwick.
Lily Barton achieved an outstanding vocational profile with Distinction* Distinction Distinction and has been accepted on an apprenticeship in an early years setting.
Xavier May earned a Merit in his T Level and will be studying Cyber Security at Bath Spa University.
Liam Skidmore achieved a Merit in his T Level and is heading to UWE Bristol to study Computer Science.
Josh Jacob Sham earned a Merit in his T Level and will also be studying Computer Science at UWE Bristol.
