22nd June 2026
Dear Parents and Carers
The Met Office has issued a Red Extreme Heat Warning for Wednesday and Thursday this week. We have been considering both government guidance and the local contexts of our schools and have taken the decision to close all MNSP schools.
All MNSP schools will be closed to all pupils and staff on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June 2026.
At this point in time, we plan to open all schools as usual on Tuesday 23rd and Friday 26th June. Clearly, we will need to keep the decision to remain open on Friday under review. If anything changes, your child’s school will notify you in the usual way about any further closures.
I appreciate that this decision may cause some issues for working parents, but we feel we are unable to adequately mitigate potential risks to pupils and staff if schools were to remain open. The guidance is quite clear in red alerts of the potential risk to life, particularly for vulnerable people.
Given the government guidance to stay out of the sun where possible between 11am and 3pm, we do not feel it appropriate to open for part of the day and close at lunchtime. We consider this to be more disruptive.
I would encourage you all to check the government guidance on staying safe during extreme heat.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Yours faithfully
Alun Williams
