Hornbeams is our pre-school which is located within the school building allowing children to feel part of the learning community from an early age. Hornbeams follows the Early Years Foundation Stage and makes good use of their garden and the school environment on a regular basis to encourage early learning. Hornbeams children have opportunities to join in special events with the school and benefit from a comprehensive transition period during the summer term before moving into Reception.
Recently pupils from High Littleton CofE Primary enjoyed the use of Norton Hill's food technology facilities as well as working with core subject teachers to improve further on the excellent educational provisions already practised at High Littleton.
Gareth Griffiths Headteacher of High Littleton Primary School stated; ‘Children from High Littleton are already using food technology facilities at Norton Hill and we are also preparing training materials on the new Key Stage 2 curriculum for English and Maths teachers at both Norton Hill and Somervale. Full approval of a reserved matters planning application has now been granted for the new Norton Hill Primary School to be built on land in Midsomer Norton adjacent to the rugby club. The site on Silver Street approved by B&NES local authority occupies land within easy walking distance of Norton Hill secondary school. The scheme approved includes measures both to widen Silver Street to ensure road safety, and to provide safe footpaths and cycleways from Norton Hill Secondary School and Charlton Park using land provided by the secondary school.
The team planning the new school is delighted with the news. The new school’s Chair of Governors, Sharon Wiseman said “this is the end of three years of hard work needed to make sure the town has enough primary school places to accommodate the population growth brought by new housing in the area. The school will be a fantastic new option for local parents. We can now appoint a Head Teacher and recruit the key personnel we need”.

Somervale School has built on its outstanding progress at GCSE over the last three years with another good year of results.
88% of students achieved 5 A*-C passes with those achieving 5 A*-C including English and Maths at 52%. Three of Somervale’s highest performing students included; Sam Clark who achieved 12 A*/A grades, Charlotte Hill 9 A*/A’s and Leah Battle 8 A*/A grades. The Maths Department led the way in the core subjects with 69% A*-C and in the option subjects Music was the highest performer with 100% A*-C pass rate. In Science and Information Technology over 90% of students achieved at least one A*-C or its equivalent, a rise of over 25% in Science on the figure in 2012.
St Dunstan’s is a special place to learn. The ethos for learning is very strong. This is generated through a skilled and strong team of staff with students that are engaged, wellbehaved and focused on learning.
St Dunstan’s is a small school and this is a strength. Students and families are well known and the pastoral care is excellent. GCSE classes are often quite small and this supports the students in achieving very strong value added outcomes. In 2015 the value added score was 1013 against a national figure of 1000.
